In light of the increasing Covid-19 cases, the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital administration has recently commenced functioning of a separate flu outpatient department (OPD) on its premises. Notably, several cases of Covid-19 reported recently in India. With time, a few Covid-19 cases also came up in Dehradun. In response to the situation, the Health department has intensified its preparations and issued guidelines to hospitals. It is also worth noting that, following these directives and in view of the rising flu cases, the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has also opened a separate flu OPD.
In an update regarding the newly established flu outpatient department (OPD) at GDMC hospital, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr RS Bisht stated that due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, the hospital administration has recently launched the flu OPD on the hospital grounds and commenced its functioning. This dedicated flu OPD is located at the entrance of the OPD building, adjacent to the hospital’s public relations office. The introduction of this separate flu OPD aims to minimise the spread of influenza and ensure the safety of patients and visitors to the hospital. Dr Bisht also said that, as of now, there have been no reported Covid-19 cases at the hospital.
In the separate flu OPD, two general doctors have been assigned, along with one staff member and others. Should the situation change in the future, additional staff will be added to the flu OPD accordingly. Dr Bisht stressed that there is currently no protocol for wearing masks or practicing social distancing, so these measures have not been enforced in the flu OPD. He also highlighted that doctors have been instructed to remain vigilant and any patient suspected of having Covid-19 should seek testing. He urged the public to stay calm and adhere to necessary precautions.
