Congress holds protest against Haridwar rape incident

In protest against the incident of rape of a woman in Haridwar district, the Congress workers held a protest in Dehradun on Tuesday. On the day the workers of the Mahanagar Congress committee Dehradun assembled at the state office of the party and held a protest meeting. They also consigned an effigy of the State government to flame on the occasion.

Addressing the party workers and leaders, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that incidents of heinous crimes are increasing in the regime of BJP which came to the power on the promise of providing a government which is free from fear and corruption. He alleged that the police administration has failed completely and in the two month period of the Dhami II government there has been a spurt in the incidents of murder, theft, dacoity and rape. These incidents not only expose the poor law and order situation in the State but also inflict a blow on the pride of the state. Mahara said that a sense of fear prevails in the minds of people especially women in the State and they are not feeling safe. He said that the incidents of Kapkot in Bageshwar, Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar, Kichha, Tharali, Jakhan in Dehradun and now rape of a woman in Haridwar has exposed the rhetoric of ‘ Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ of the BJP government. The PCC president demanded that the culprits of Haridwar rape incident should be immediately arrested.

The Mahanagar president of Congress, Lal Chand Sharma said the increase in crime against women is very serious and highly deplorable. He said that the daughters are not safe in any of the BJP ruled states.

The Congress workers also handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate of Dehradun.

The vice president (administration) Mathura Dutt Joshi, general secretary  (organisation) Vijay Saraswat, former MLA Rajkumar, Godavari Thapli, R P Raturi, Garima Dasauni and others were present on the occasion.
