Reiterating its faith in the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recommended by the State government in the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed hope that the probe will resolve all doubts in the case.
The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that those making an issue out of the new FIR lodged by environmentalist Anil Prakash Joshi are the ones who do not trust the CBI while claiming to want to ensure justice to the victim. He said that they should be clear that the probe is being undertaken as per the wish of the Bhandari family and not for politics.
Bhatt alleged that following the CBI probe recommendation made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Congress has been indulging in insensitive politics. He said, “As soon as the case came to light, the government initiated strict investigation and concrete advocacy in the court. The legal battle achieved its aim with the guilty being sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. However, the opposition is spreading confusion and lies on the basis of audio recordings and videos which went viral on social media. The CM talked to the victim’s family in order to clear this atmosphere of doubt and rumours being created in the State. The CBI probe was recommended by the State government based on their opinion,” he said.
The BJP State chief alleged that the State government’s decision had given a jolt to the Congress’ negative politics, adding that this is the reason why it is raising an unnecessary dispute on the second FIR lodged in the case. “It is public knowledge that the matter is sub judice in the Uttarakhand High Court. Since the court’s role is vital in this situation and the second FIR will be important in the CBI probe into allegations of tampering with evidence and names being taken in the case. However, the Congress and its leaders appear not to be bothered by this. It is hard to digest when the party which strongly criticises the CBI seeks a probe by the agency in the case,” Bhatt added.
