SDC Foundation launches Paryavaran Express

In a move to provide real-time data on various environmental parameters such as air pollution, water quality and noise pollution, the Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation launched the Paryavaran Express on Wednesday. The initiative was inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation campus in Kaulagarh by the institute’s director, M Madhu.
Informing this, the founder of SDC Foundation Anoop Nautiyal said that this is believed to be the first initiative of its kind in Uttarakhand.
“The Paryavaran Express has been specially designed to measure PM2.5, PM10, Air Quality Index (AQI) and various harmful gases in the air. It is also equipped for water testing and monitoring noise pollution. Wherever the Paryavaran Express is stationed, it will measure air pollutants and display live data on a large screen. In the near future, it will also include instruments for soil testing and rainfall measurement,” he said. Additionally, a water pollution testing kit is available on board. The vehicle operates on solar panels to meet its electricity needs.
Nautiyal emphasised that the main objective of the Paryavaran Express is to provide the general public with accurate scientific information about the environment. He expressed hope that this initiative would spark curiosity in people about environmental issues and inspire them to learn more and reconsider their perspectives. He also stressed the goal of encouraging active public participation in environmental conservation through this initiative.
