SCPCR to provide counselling to Bal Grah staff

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will soon start counselling of employees working in Bal Grahs across the state. The chairperson of the commission Geeta Khanna said that the staff working in all children homes plays an important role in the development of the children staying there. They are the people who interact with children the most on a daily basis that makes it more important for them to be mentally healthy too, said Khanna. “The staff in all Bal Grahs interact with children of different age groups. The behaviour of the staff tends to have an effect on children and similarly, children can affect them too emotionally or mentally. Considering this, we have decided to initiate a programme of starting counselling of the staff,” said the SCPCR chief.

The head of the Forgiveness Founder Society Pawan Sharma, who went to the SCPCR with this proposal, said that it is compulsory to provide such counselling and training sessions to staffS working in children homes under Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act. Khanna has given her nod to provide these counselling sessions initially to the staff of children homes of Haridwar and Dehradun districts. She said, “I am sure this will have a positive impact on staff which will help them to stay positive while working for and around the children. The project will possibly start from April for these two districts. Since the commission needs a budget to conduct such sessions across the state, we will prepare a proposal to send it to the government.”
