SBM (rural) implementation handed over to Panchayat bodies

 In a major decision, the Uttarakhand government has decided to hand over the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission (rural) phase III to the Panchayati Raj department of the State.  A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet held in the State secretariat on Wednesday.  The cabinet approved the proposal of the Drinking Water and Sanitation department to hand over the SBM (rural) phase III commencing from April 01, 2026 to Panchayati Raj department. It is pertinent to mention here that the Drinking Water and Sanitation department was overseeing the implementation of SBM (rural) phase II in Uttarakhand.

The meeting of the cabinet was chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. In view of the enforcement of the model code of conduct (MCC) due to the Panchayat election there was no official briefing about the cabinet decisions. However it is learnt that the cabinet held discussion on subjects associated with Panchayati Raj, Education and Drinking Water departments.  

The cabinet authorised CM Dhami to take a decision on the place, date and duration of the upcoming Monsoon session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha. The Monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha should be convened before August 22.

The recommendation of the cabinet subcommittee on the third report of the Single Dedicated Commission on OBC reservation was also tabled in the cabinet meeting. The cabinet held discussion on the report and recommendation of the cabinet subcommittee. In another decision, the cabinet approved the Uttarakhand Special Educator service regulation- 2025. It is worth mentioning here that following an order of the Supreme Court dated March 07, 2025, the Secondary Education department has created posts of 135 special educators in the State and to initiate the process of recruitment in the department has proposed the service rules for special educators.
