PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The sanitation services in the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital were affected on Wednesday due to the strike of the sanitation workers. The workers demanded immediate payment of their pending salaries.
It is important to note that the workers had only received half of their November salaries. Considering this, on Tuesday, they announced that they would go on a strike on Wednesday.
Due to the strike, garbage accumulated in different wings of the hospital and other unhygienic conditions were observed at the hospital premises.
Taking cognisance of this issue, Health secretary Sachin Kurve intervened and assured the workers that their pending salaries would be released immediately. He instructed the concerned authorities to clear the dues of 105 of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) and outsource company. This has brought great relief to the employees and paved the way for the smooth functioning of the sanitation system in hospitals.
Following this assurance, principal, Dr Geeta Jain appealed to the sanitation workers to end their strike and resume work, citing the need for uninterrupted emergency services at the hospital.
