Congress marches against CAA & Central Govt policies
A large number of party leaders, workers and supporters participated in the Samvidhan Bachao, Bharat Bachao rally organised by the Congress against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) here on Saturday. The Congress leaders, expressing happiness at the considerable number of participants in the show of strength, claimed that this is an evidence of the opposition of citizens to the CAA and “divisive”policies of the BJP-led Central Government.
The rally began under the leadership of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh. Earlier, Singh, leaders of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Indira Hridayesh, Congress deputy leader in the Vidhan Sabha, Karan Mahra, party’s state co-in-charge Rajesh Dharmani, former PCC chief Kishore Upadhyaya, former minister Hira Singh Bisht, MLA Mamta Rakesh and Mahila Congress state president Sarita Arya addressed the gathering of party workers at the Rajiv Bhawan.
Lambasting the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PCC chief said that the manner in which the Centre is trying to impose its decision on the citizens is an evidence of its anti-people mindset. Stating that the purpose of the rally was to raise public awareness on the “unconstitutional” actions of the BJP-led Central Government, Singh said that the Congress will not allow the government to get away with such actions. He said that those in power were keeping silent on the various burning issues facing the nation and affecting its people.
Addressing the gathering, other Congress leaders alleged that the centre had taken a decision against the constitution. This had spread an atmosphere of fear and disorder across the nation. Members of the general public are affected by this atmosphere of fear and are feeling insecure, they claimed.
The Congress leaders further opined that the economy of the nation was in a bad condition. The state of unemployment is such that even those youth who had a source of income before demonetisation have now become unemployed. Such is the economic slowdown that many businesses have also been shut down. The farmers suffering under the burden of loan taken from money lenders are being forced by circumstances to commit suicide. The Congress leaders further claimed that the poor, members of the minority communities, farmers and women are feeling insecure under the governance of the BJP-led Central Government.
The party leaders then headed members and supporters on a march which began from the party’s state office on Rajpur Road. A large number of people participating in the rally marched via Gandhi Park, Clock Tower, Paltan Bazaar and Raja Road before returning to the party’s state office.
