The police arrested another accused who was involved in robbing a jeweller in Rishikesh last week. His accomplice was arrested on March 21 after getting shot during a police encounter near the Dehradun- Uttar Pradesh border. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajay Singh said that two men robbed a jeweller in Rishikesh on last Monday night at gunpoint when he was returning home. The first accused identified as Manoj Sirohi was arrested late on Monday when he was entering Dehradun from Saharanpur. He was shot in the leg after he fired at the police during late night checking near Asharodi. He was allegedly coming to Dehradun with the plan to carry out another robbery. Both accused had also stolen a motorcycle from Haridwar a day before conducting the robbery in Rishikesh to evade police arrest.

The SSP said that after the arrest of the first accused, the police team was sent to UP again to search for the second robber in Meerut and other possible locations in Western Uttar Pradesh. The team that was continuously working to nab the accused received a tip off on Sunday that Mohit Sirohi will reach Haridwar via Laksar. The police acted on the information and arrested him from Haridwar’s Jagjeetpur Kankhal area.

The police recovered looted jewellery worth about Rs 70,000 and a motorcycle from the accused. Singh said that at least six criminal cases are registered against Sirohi and police are getting more information about his criminal history. He said that the accused confessed to robbing the jeweller in Rishikesh at gunpoint and revealed during the inquiry that he bought the recovered motorcycle from the money he got after selling the looted jewellery. The accused will be presented before the court soon, Singh added.
