U’khand soldiers played  major role in Kargil victory: Governor

The governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh said that the victory of the Indian army in the Kargil was historic because it was fought under tough geographical conditions.  The governor was speaking in a programme organised on the occasion of Kargil Victory day at martyr’s memorial in Cheerbag here on Wednesday. He laid a floral wreath on the memorial to express his tributes to the martyrs.

 The governor said that every citizen of the country must remember the stories of valour and sacrifice of the heroes of Kargil. Singh said that a total of 527 brave soldiers of our country laid down their lives in the Kargil war and out of them 75 soldiers were from Uttarakhand. He said that the soldiers of Uttarakhand played a major role in the Kargil victory. The governor added that it is the duty of everyone to provide every possible help to the families of the martyrs, Veer Naris and the injured soldiers. This would be the biggest tribute to the martyrs, he said.  

He met the armed forces veterans who had participated in the Kargil war and Veer Naris on the occasion.

The General officer Commanding (GoC) of Uttarakhand Sub Area Major General Sanjiv Khatri, deputy GoC Brigadier Anirban Dutta, ex servicemen and Veer Naris were present on the occasion.
