The regional transport officer (enforcement and road safety) of Dehradun division Shailesh Tiwari conducted an inspection of the accident site and the car wreck at Narsan in Haridwar on Saturday where cricketer Rishabh Pant met with an accident early on Friday morning.

He said that the RTO team found out that the width of the road at the accident site was about 35 feet and the route was level. The team apparently found nothing at the site that could cause or trigger the accident. The main cause of the accident appears to be the cricketer experiencing microsleep while driving the car that day due to which he possibly lost control of the car that led to its collision with the road divider.  Soon after the car collided with the divider, it broke the crash barrier and crashed about 100 metres far into the other side of the lane.

The team also checked the car which was completely destroyed in the fire, said Tiwari. He said that microsleep is dangerous as it takes a very small amount of time for the driver to make a mistake that can lead to serious injuries so drivers should always get complete sleep before travelling. If possible, one should avoid travelling at night, especially during winter due to dense fog, said the RTO. He said that one should take some breaks at some stops while driving at night to ensure one does not fall asleep during the journey. One should also ensure all headlights, indicators and reflectors are working properly before travelling at night, added Tiwari.
