Roll back Agnipath scheme immediately- Ex MP Manvendra Singh

Former Member of Parliament (MP) and chairman of Rajasthan Sainik Kalyan Board, Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Manvendra Singh has demanded that the  Agnipath scheme for recruitment in the armed forces should be rolled back with immediate effect.

Interacting with the media persons at the state headquarters of the Congress party here on Sunday he said that the scheme hurts the future of the youngsters of the country who were hoping to serve the country by joining the armed forces. Singh said that all stakeholders and youth, ex-servicemen and defence experts have rejected the scheme. He said that a short time period (six months) of training of Agniveers would affect the quality, skill and affectivity of the armed forces. Launching an attack on the government, Singh said that the economy of the country is in very bad shape and more than 62 lakh posts are vacant in the country and out of them 26 lakh posts are vacant in central government services. 

The Congress leader said that due to the pandemic of Covid-19, no recruitment in the armed forces occurred in the last two years and now when the youngsters who were waiting for the start of recruitment process, the government has come up with Agnipath scheme.
