Relieving nurses won’t affect GDMC services: CMS

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The recent process of relieving nurses at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) to the health department will not affect the services according to the chief medical superintendent Dr RS Bisht. He stated that the Health department had previously supported GDMC by providing staff; however, as new appointments for doctors, ward boys and other personnel have been made, health department staff has been returned with time.

Recently, about 300 nursing staff members were appointed at GDMC, with 283 having already joined the hospital. Dr Bisht said that it is their responsibility to relieve the Health department nurses, given these fresh appointments. Currently, 40 nurses from the health department are in the process of being relieved by GDMC. This process is taking some time because the newly appointed nurses are undergoing training, but they will soon take over responsibilities, allowing the 40 nurses to return to the health department.

Dr Bisht further assured that the relieving of these nurses will not impact services at GDMC, as there are now sufficient nursing staff in place. With the new appointments, they are considering expanding the dialysis shift from one to two. Additionally, he said that the number of ICU beds will increase from 80 to 115 at GDMC. He emphasised that the infrastructure needed to strengthen these activities is already in place. The GDMC also has an average of 83 Uttarakhand Purav Sainik Nurses (UPNL, he said. He also added that ward boys have also recently been appointed, and the health department ward boys have been returned to their original posts.

It will be recalled that earlier, Bisht informed that as soon as the fresh appointment of nurses is done, the facilities at the GDMC will be strengthened.
