Referral centre for disabled to open soon at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital

To enhance services for individuals with disabilities, the State referral centre will soon be established at the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital. This hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Manu Jain informed that the referral centre aims to improve services for disabled individuals who can be referred from across the State and access treatment.
The establishment process of the centre is currently underway, being developed under the guidance of the district magistrate. At this centre, individuals with disabilities will have access to advanced technology treatments. Additionally, those coming from other districts will have access to dormitory facilities that will be established under the centre.
He further added that the centre will be located on the first floor of the hospital building and will feature five to six rooms. Doctors will be transferred from the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital to the centre and recruitment of paramedical staff will also be conducted.
Regarding the budget for this centre, Jain said that the Social Welfare department has so far provided Rs 80 lakh, with more funds to be allocated based on demand. Construction work has already commenced and is expected to be completed within two to three months.
It is important to recall that recently, the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) was inaugurated at the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital. With the efforts of the district administration and the Social Welfare Department, this centre aims to provide individuals with disabilities access to all government schemes.
The DDRC has been established with the main goal of providing all types of services—from certification to artificial limbs and counselling—under one roof. Additionally, officials also introduced mobile numbers to assist disabled individuals in contacting and availing themselves of the services provided at the DDRC.
