Red alert- heavy to very heavy rain likely in parts of State today

The State meteorological centre has issued a red alert regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at a few places in districts of Kumaon region and adjoining districts of Garhwal region with extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in the districts on Friday. The centre has also issued an orange alert regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts while thunderstorm/lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in the districts today. Apart from this, light to moderate rainfall/thundershowers are very likely to occur at most places in the districts today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness generally cloudy sky with the possibility of heavy rainfall likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 26 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Friday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Thursday were 27.1 degrees Celsius and 22.9 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27.5 degrees Celsius and 25.3 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 15.8 degrees Celsius and 14.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 19.4 degrees Celsius and 15.5 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.  With many parts of the State experiencing light to moderate rain on Thursday, there was 10.8 millimetres rain in Pantnagar, 14.3 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 37.5 millimetres in Narendranagar, 33.5 millimetres in Mussoorie and 27 millimetres in Khatima.
