Distribution of full compensation begins for subsidence victims in Joshimath

The Chamoli district administration has started distributing cheques to provide full compensation for home owners in land subsidence affected Joshimath on Friday. The full compensation is being provided to home owners whose homes have been damaged beyond repair. According to officials, three of the affected families received cheques on the first day of the distribution. The Joshimath sub divisional magistrate Kumkum Joshi handed over the cheques.  Those who received the cheques were Manglu Lal, resident of Gandhinagar ward and Krishna Panwar and Baldev Panwar, residents of Sunil ward. It is further learnt that Manglu Lal received a cheque of Rs 31 lakh while the other two received cheques worth 32 lakh.

It is pertinent to mention here that this distribution of compensation is taking place following the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to provide compensation to subsidence affected home owners of Joshimath following approval of the cabinet to the rehabilitation policy for the Joshimath subsidence disaster. The affected were provided a total of Rs 63.20 lakh in compensation. The documents of the affected persons were verified and their properties were measured before payment of compensation.  The other affected families will also be provided compensation under the rehabilitation policy in the near future.
