Congress leader and former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat has expressed his interest in contesting the Lok Sabha election in 2024. He said that he would contest if given the party ticket from either Haridwar or Garhwal constituency. Rawat said this while talking to the media in the presence of other party leaders including former Pradesh Congress Committee president and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh. Rawat and other party leaders were here on a visit to Jairam Ashram where they met party leader Bhramaswaroop Bhramachari on Tuesday.

Rawat who had shifted from the Bharatiya Janata Party to the Congress just before the 2022 Assembly elections said that he is interested in contesting the coming Lok Sabha elections. Interacting with the media in the presence of Singh and deputy leader of opposition Bhuwan Chandra Kapri, Rawat said that if given the party ticket, he will contest the parliamentary election in 2024 from either Haridwar or Garhwal constituency. He said that he had earlier declared that he would not contest the Assembly election but had never ruled out contesting the Lok Sabha elections.  Bhramaswaroop Bhramachari said that he will support whoever is fielded by the Congress party in the parliamentary polls. Meanwhile, the party leaders called the visit a courtesy call. Singh said that the Congress party is strong and will continue to play the role of a united opposition in the future.
