Rains lash State, more expected today

Moderate to heavy rain was experienced in various parts of the State which brought down the level of mercury on Friday. The rainy weather is expected to continue on Saturday with the State meteorological centre forecast light to moderate rain/thunderstorm/snowfall likely to occur at many places in the mountainous regions and at a few places in the plains of Uttarakhand today. Further, snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above. The meteorological centre has also issued a warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail likely to occur at isolated places in the districts on Saturday.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly to generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of light rain/thunderstorms likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 23 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the rain on Friday brought down the mercury level considerably in Dehradun with a difference of less than four degrees Celsius between the maximum and minimum temperatures. Waterlogging was also witnessed briefly in some parts of the city. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Friday were 18.3 degrees Celsius and 15.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27.6 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 9.2 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 9.4 degrees Celsius and 8.6 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. There was 102 millimetre rainfall in Ramnagar, 100 millimetre in Kashipur, 63.5 millimetre in Lansdowne, 50.5 millimetre in Koti, 48 millimetre in Nainital, 39.5 millimetre in Dhanaulti, 38.1 millimetre in Mussoorie and 18.5 millimetre in Dehradun.
