Heavy rains and landslides have disrupted routine life in Nainital city and other parts of the district. In the popular hill station, the level of Naini lake has been rising following consistent rain since Sunday while roads in the suburbs and other parts of the district have been blocked due to landslides and other rain-related factors.
Officials said on Tuesday that Nainital received 174 millimetres of rain during the past 24 hours while Haldwani received 98 millimetres of rain. A total of 27 roads including one national highway, one State highway, two main district roads and 20 rural roads are blocked in the district with the authorities working to reopen these roads. The electricity supply has also been affected in various areas including Haidakhan, Okhalkanda, Amjad Midar, Suwakot and Pokhari.
In Nainital city, the level of the lake has risen while the ongoing Ma Nanda Devi Mahotsav has also been affected by the inclement weather. The rainwater entering shops and near the temple area is posing inconvenience to both the devotees and traders while the locals are also facing problems due to rainwater entering the local Mandi. Tourist spots also wore a deserted look due to the impact of the rains.
