Questions being raised at arrangements, says Congress

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Congress has alleged that the locals, devotees and members of the Panda-Purohit community appear unsatisfied with the arrangements made by the State government for the Char Dham Yatra. It was expected that the government would learn from past year’s experience and improve the arrangements this year, but they have been disappointing, said the Congress.

The party’s chief spokesperson in the State, Garima Dasauni cited some videos circulating on social media and said that these raise questions at the functioning of the authorities in Kedarnath. She said that people are expressing disappointment at the Yatra arrangements. The sick ponies not getting treatment on time is delaying the supply of ration and foodgrains to the Dham, she said.

The Congress leaders further said that the locals are also unhappy that people from another State have been called here for decoration of the temple. Dasauni also questioned the appointment of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee chairman and vice-chairmen, stating that the appointments were delayed despite the dates of reopening of the Char Dham being known earlier. She also questioned the qualifications and backgrounds of those appointed to these posts. Dasauni has sought the immediate intervention of the State government to ensure that the arrangements are improved without delay.
