Public participation & collective intent needed to eradicate TB: Governor

Governor lieutenant general (rtd) Gurmit Singh has said that apart from government efforts, the public participation and collective commitment is necessary for eradication of TB. He said that people who have become free from TB are the real warriors and can become a source of inspiration for others.
The governor was addressing a felicitation ceremony under the TB Free India campaign at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday. The programme was organised by the National Health Mission (NHM).
The governor said that he too had the privilege to become Nikshay Mitra and out of 75 TB patients he had adopted, 62 have become completely free from TB. He appealed to the affluent and capable people to become Nikshay Mirtas. He requested the Health department that no patient should be deprived from the treatment in absence of information. The governor said that it should be ensured that the campaign reaches out to the last person standing on the social ladder and expressed confidence that with collective efforts the objective of making the State free from TB in 2025 will be achieved.
Speaking on the occasion Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the objective of the State government is to make Uttarakhand TB free in 2025. He said that every possible effort is being made to achieve the target. The minister said that a comprehensive campaign to eradicate TB will commence on August 1, 2025. Special camps in all wards of Nagar Panchayat and municipalities will be organised. These camps will help in identification of the TB patients, their treatment and spreading awareness.
The governor felicitated Dr Farooq, Punam Kimothi, Mukesh Mohan, Pankaj Gupta, Arti, Kalpana Bisht, Dr Ritu Gupra, Rajiv Bijalwan, Inder Ramola, Dolly Dabral, Rajnesh Goyal and Mamta Thapa in the programme.
The programme was attended by secretary Ravinath Raman,R Rajesh Kumar, additional secretary Reena Joshi, director general health Dr Sunita Tamta, director medical education Dr Ashutosh Sayana and others.
