Probe drags on in high profile loot case

In the high profile case of alleged loot on the night of April 4, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate has again sent the four accused including a Congress leader and three suspended policemen to 14 days judicial custody. It is important to mention that the four accused were recently interrogated about the bag that was allegedly looted on the said night. However the mystery behind the bag is still unsolved.

Director General of Police (DGP) Anil K Raturi said, “The case is very serious, the investigation is still under process. We have sent the accused to jail.”

When asked about the ongoing investigation and the interrogation STF conducted, the STF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ridhim Aggarwal remained tight lipped and refused to comment stating that the accused are in judicial custody.

However, if sources are to be believed, accused Congress leader Anupam Sharma has the weakest case against him and thus has the strongest chance of getting bail, which is why defendant’s lawyers have only filed for Anupam Sharma’s bail application in district court.

When asked about this DIG Aggarwal said, “We have already established that though Anupam Sharma was not present at the time of bag being taken by the other accused on the night of April 4, he was still part of the entire conspiracy. On the basis of this he was arrested.”

It is important to mention that this high profile case was handed over to STF on April 12. Soon after that, on April 15 and 16 the STF interrogated everyone known to be involved in the case. Taking all the technical evidence into account STF then arrested all four accused on the night of April 16, after which the pace of the investigation has been slow. The bag in question has still not been recovered. Further, the STF does not seem to be certain about the contents of the bag.
