While addressing the convocation of Kumaun University on Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu said that education is the fulcrum on which a nation’s development is based. She stressed on building moral strength and character in the students along with developing their intellect and skills. “Education should not only make us self-reliant but also teach us to be humble and to contribute to the development of society and the country,” she said and urged the students to dedicate their education to the service of the underprivileged and also for nation-building.
Speaking of the fast-growing Indian economy, she said that it is one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world. “The government is taking policy initiatives to ensure that the progress continues. As these initiatives are creating numerous opportunities for the youth, the higher education institutions should ensure that the youth utilize these opportunities,” she noted. Also, she laid emphasis on research, innovation and entrepreneurship. “I am happy to note that Kumaun University is committed to excellence in education, research, and innovation,” she said and hailed its conscious efforts towards environmental protection.
Earlier, the President had offered prayers at the Naina Devi Temple at Nainital and had had Darshan at Shri Neeb Karori Baba Ashram, Kainchi Dham.
