Vehicle laden with timber seized, 3 held

In latest news from Uttarakhand,   with preparations for the Lok Sabha election gaining momentum, the Uttarkashi police are clamping down on drug peddling, timber smuggling and other crimes under the direction of the Uttarkashi superintendent of police   Arpan Yaduvanshi. In the latest action, Dharasu police while conducting a vehicle checking drive at Naguna barrier arrested three people found smuggling Kajal wood. Police said that a total of 192 pieces of Kajal wood was recovered from the trio which is worth around Rs 25 lakh in the international market and added that the woods were cut in Manpur-Kishanpur forest and they were planning to sell them in Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh. Later, the trio and the timber seized were handed over to the forest department which registered a case against them under the Forest Act. The trio was identified as Devendra (38), Shyam Bahadur (40) and Roshan Bahadur (25). Forest department officials said Kajal wood is used for making Ayurvedic medicines, paper and wooden bowls among other products and its demand is high in Nepal and China.
