Preparations complete for portal-closure of Gangotri & Yamunotri shrines

In tune with the traditions, the portals of Gangotri  Dham will be closed for the winter season on Wednesday while those of Yamunotri Dham will be closed a day after-October 23. Divulging details, a member of the Gangotri Temple committee said that the portals of the shrine would be closed at 11:36 AM on the occasion of Annakut. “Ganga Ji will reside in the temple at Mukhwa during the winter sojourn,” he added.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj, the portals of Yamunotri Dham will be closed at 12:30 PM. Thereafter, the festive idol of the Devi will be ceremonially taken in a palanquin to the temple at Kharsali.  

The temple committees of both the shrines have completed all arrangements for the portal- closing ceremonies. The district administration and police department have also made all necessary arrangements, expecting a large turnout of pilgrims during the ceremonies.

According to the district administration, while 7,57, 762 pilgrims visited Gangotri shrine the figure is 6,44,366 for Yamunotri shrine.
