A special training session for the upcoming Panchayat elections was held in Haldwani on Monday chaired by the joint secretary, State Election Commission, Kamlesh Mehta. This meeting marks the commencement of preparations for the three-tier Panchayat elections to be held later this year across Uttarakhand.
The meeting saw officials from the State Election Commission and the State Information Science Centre in Dehradun providing detailed information on various processes related to the upcoming three-tier Panchayat polls. They demonstrated special software developed by the National Information Centre, offering practical training on key topics such as voter management, voter list uploads, polling kit management, ballot box handling, election certificates, vote counting and election expenditure limits. “This software represents a significant advancement towards making the electoral process more transparent, efficient, and technologically capable,” said a senior officer present at the training, adding that it would automate the voting and counting processes while making result declaration easier through the online means.
Further, the officials provided comprehensive information on the Uttarakhand Panchayati Raj Act of 2018, Panchayat election rules, election expenditure limits as well as training for election personnel.
Mehta said that the citizens can check their names on the voter list by visiting the State Election Commission’s website. “If any voter’s name is missing or incorrect, it can be added or corrected through the office of the assistant election officer or sub-divisional magistrate. Besides, written objections can be submitted to remove the names of ineligible voters,” he said, adding that the commission would try to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of their right to vote and that voter information is accurate and current. “Through this training, all officers involved in the election process are being technologically empowered and prepared,” Mehta said.
