Power corporation employees suspend strike

The agitating employees of the three power corporations of Uttarakhand withdrew their strike after talks with the power minister Harak Singh Rawat on Tuesday. In the meeting the minister assured the leaders of  Vidyut Adhikari- Karmchari Sanyukt Morchathat their issues would be solved within a month.  He said that all the genuine issues would be solved within 15 days at the level of department. After the meeting the Morcha suspended its agitation. Earlier in the day the government had banned the strike in the three power corporations for six months and warned to take punitive actions on those who would participate in the strike.

Under the banner ofMorchamore than 3500 employees belonging to ten associations of the three corporations engaged in production, transmission and distribution of power in the state had gone on an indefinite strike from Monday midnight. The employees want their 14 points demands to be accepted by the state government.

The Morcha wants that the old system of Assured Career Progression (ACP) should be restored and all the contractual workers of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) should be regularised.  The old ACP model of assured promotion at the end of nine, five and five years of service was taken back when the seventh pay commission recommendations were implemented in the power corporations.
