Police verify 605 tenants in Dehradun, issue Rs 7.5 lakh challan for violations

At a time when many hundreds of Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Rohingyas living illegally in India are being apprehended in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the nation, the Uttarakhand police is continuing it’s routine checks while issuing vhallns as usual and claiming that there are no illegal foreigners in the State. Uttarakhand shared international borders with Nepal and China.
According to officials, Dehradun Police verified 605 individuals, including tenants and outsiders, during a large-scale verification drive conducted across multiple police station areas on Monday. The police issued challans under Section 83 of the Police Act to 75 individuals for various irregularities.
The total amount of fines collected reached Rs 7.5 lakh, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that all police station in-charges conducted the drive in their respective areas to check the identities and backgrounds of people from outside the district. Police teams focused on individuals staying in rented accommodations or appearing suspicious. During the drive, police brought several individuals to local police stations for questioning and physical verification.
The police also took action against eight individuals under Section 81 of the Police Act, issuing fines amounting to Rs 2,000. The SSP said that the operation aimed to trace suspicious activity and enforce proper documentation among non-local residents. The drive will continue across the district to ensure safety and maintain crime, law and order, he added.
