Police to dispose of all major NDPS cases in two months

The additional director general of police (Law and Order) V Murugesan reviewed all pending NDPS cases that involve commercial quantities of drugs. He said that all old cases must be cleared quickly.
During the meeting, the ADG instructed officers to finished the four pending cases from 2023 and 15 cases from 2024 within a fixed time. A total of 40 cases in yhe Garhwal region and 47 cases in the Kumaon region were also reviewed in details.
The ADG directed officers to take strong action against drug traffickers. He said that illegal property of accused persons must be seized under the Gangster Act and NDPS Act without any delay. He also ordered police to keep a close watch on repeat offenders by opening their history sheets and, if needed, detained them under PIT NDPS.
Strict directions were issued for investigation officers who have not provided complete information about the accused to the court. Officers were also told to identify vehicle owners in cases where wrong registration numbers were found.
The ADG expressed concern over cases where investigation was pending even after receiving the lab report of the seized drugs. He instructed that disciplinary action must be taken against officers responsible for such delays.
To ensure faster investigation, circle officers have been told to prepare a checklist and complete all work on time. The ADG also said that many cases are pending because the trafficking network, financial investigation, and Gangster Act proceedings were not done. Officers who fail to do this will face strict action. Investigations have been given two months to complete all remaining work. Senior officers including Inspector General (Crime) Sunil Kumar Meena, deputy inspector general (Crime) Dhirendra Gunjyal, and superintendent of police (Crime) Vishakha Ashok Bhadane were present in the meeting.
