Police seize nearly half kg gold from UP resident

While conducting checks in view of the ensuing Assembly elections, the police recovered nearly half a kilogramme- 482 grammes of gold from a person. The seizure was made in Jhiroli at Kafligar with the gold estimated to be worth Rs 27 lakh.

The police and special operation group (SOG) were conducting checks on Saturday when they accosted Nitin Agarwal on suspicion near Kafligar inter college intersection. Nearly half a kilogramme of gold was recovered from his bag when the police searched it. The police found eight small pieces of gold and two gold chains. Agarwal is a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and was unable to provide valid documentation for the gold on being asked to present the same by the police. Seizing the gold being transported illegally, the police handed it over to the returning officer for further action.
