The Haridwar police is ready for the occasion of Kartik Poornima on which a large number of devotees are expected to take a ceremonial dip in the Ganga river here on Tuesday. Guru Nanak Jayanti will also be observed on Tuesday. To ensure the safety of pilgrims and manage various other aspects, the police department has deployed necessary force in various parts of the city. On Monday, the district’s senior superintendent of police, Senthil Avoodai, chaired a meeting with officers and personnel of the department to review the preparations.
The SSP said that for the occasion of Kartik Poornima, in view of security and management, the entire area has been divided into nine zones and 32 sectors. To control the large crowd of devotees which is expected to visit Har ki Paidi, the district police have also sought additional force. These include more police personnel, four companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), three bomb disposal squads, three segments of water police and two teams of dog squad which will be deployed at designated spots for the occasion.
As Guru Nanak Jayanti will also be observed on Tuesday, the police are also alert regarding the issue of Gyan Godri Gurudwara. Considering that the Gurudwara issue is sensitive, the police force will also be deployed on the route to this Gurudwara. The said team will be directed by a deputy superintendent of police.
“Har ki Paidi is completely safe and it is being constantly monitored. Route diversion plan will be implemented when the pressure of the crowd will increase,” said the Haridwar SSP.
