Considering that improper parking of vehicles outside eateries on main roads at night affects traffic in the city, the traffic police penalised 361 vehicles in the past one week. Besides this, the police also seized two mobile food shops for the violation of traffic rules. The officials said that this checking campaign was conducted from 6 PM to 9 PM by two teams of the City Patrol Unit (CPU) and traffic police. They said that the campaign was conducted during these hours as these are considered peak business hours for eateries. Many people outside eateries do not pay attention to how they park their vehicles which causes severe traffic congestion even on broad roads. This causes a nuisance to commuters and increases the risk of accidents, said the officials. The checking was done in areas where people visit the most eateries serving junk food like Chakrata Road, Rajpur Road, East Canal Road and space near Gandhi Park, Rispana bridge and Vidhan Sabha area among others. The officials said that the police also penalised several vehicles outside liquor shops for improper parking. The traffic police have appealed to people to park their vehicles at designated parking spots, especially at night, to ensure it does not disrupt traffic.
