The Congress has demanded that the chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Geeta Khanna should be removed from her position for seeking donation in a WhatsApp group of a women’s organisation.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara claimed that Khanna has shared a post in a WhatsApp group of a women’s organisation in which she demanded a donation of Rs 21,000 for some ‘Saashwat organisation’ for protection of Hindu religion. He alleged that the SCPCR chairperson also forced the members of the group to provide evidence of the donation they have made to the organisation. Mahara said that Khanna has accepted that she had shared the post of donation in the group. He said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami should take cognisance of the post. He said that the nation is governed by the constitution and it gives a role of dignity for the commissions and their chairpersons.

Mahara added that India is a democratic and secular country and people of all faiths, religions and caste live here congenially. He said that Khanna has demeaned the dignity of her position by writing the post seeking donation. The PCC president said Khanna has lost the moral authority to continue in the constitutional position. He demanded that the governor of Uttarakhand should take cognisance of the issue and remove her from the position of chairperson of SCPCR.
