Police nab two for online betting operation

Doon site part of pan-India online gambling network run from Dubai

The Patelnagar police in Dehradun arrested two men operating an online betting racket linked to an enterprise in Dubai. The police seized two laptops, six mobile phones and about Rs 15 lakh betting amount deposited in two banks in Mumbai. The police had been tipped off about some men facilitating online betting at a building in Dehrakhas area.

The police team raided the second floor of the Academy of Creative Training and Skill building and nabbed Manish and Prakash Singh who were facilitating online betting through various mobile phones and laptops. The duo was found to have opened the website cricketbet9.com on the laptops and facilitating online betting for customers on the home page of Mahadev Book.

In order to run the betting operation round the clock, a total of eight persons were found involved working in pairs of two for shifts of six hours each. Additionally, three other persons were allegedly controlling the online betting operation being conducted by eight persons in the premises.

The police further informed that when questioned, the two accused men apprehended informed the police that an enterprise called Mahadev Book is operated online from Dubai. This company is involved in running online betting centres at about 150 locations across India. The centre raided by the police in Dehradun is numbered 102. The centre in Dehradun enabled punters to make online cricket bets or gamble online in casino through various websites.The accused duo said that through Telegram, they used to provide relevant information to their customers for online gambling. While the two Dehradun resident accused Manish (22) and Prakash Singh (23) were arrested by the police, 10 other accused including Anil Upadhyay, Mahadev Raturi, Ravi, PKC Upadhyay, Aman, Ankush, Anmol, Mukul, Saurabh and Amit are wanted by the police.
