PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
Police have issued a traffic advisory for the VVIP movement of President Droupadi Murmu, who will be on a three-day visit to Dehradun from June 19 to June 21. In view of her scheduled engagements, including the foundation stone laying of a major public park project, the police have announced a series of traffic diversions and rerouting plans across key routes connecting Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Mussoorie. As part of the security arrangements, movement of vehicles on several roads will be regulated for specific hours over the three days.
As per the advisory, traffic coming from Rishikesh toward Dehradun will be diverted from Ranipokhari via Bhogpur and Thano to enter the city through Sahastradhara Crossing and Survey Chowk on June 19. Vehicles headed toward Mussoorie from Rishikesh will be routed through IT Park and Sai Mandir. Similarly, traffic from Haridwar to Dehradun and Mussoorie will be rerouted via Doiwala and Kargi Chowk, avoiding main city roads during peak VVIP movement hours. Vehicles from the Premnagar or Asharodi side going toward Mussoorie will be sent via ISBT, GMS Road and Ballupur.
On June 20, traffic from East Canal Road and Clock Tower area headed to Mussoorie will be redirected via Survey Chowk, IT Park and Sai Mandir. Vehicles returning from Mussoorie to Dehradun will use the Old Mussoorie Road and enter the city via IT Park and Sahastradhara Crossing. On the final day of the visit on Saturday, similar routes and restrictions will remain in place with traffic flowing through alternate link roads, especially for commuters traveling between Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Mussoorie. Diversion points will be actively managed during designated hours each day, with major checkpoints set up at Ranipokhari, Bhaniyawala flyover, Dudhli Road, Kargi Chowk, Sahastradhara Crossing and Sai Mandir among others. Authorities have urged residents to use alternate routes, two-wheelers and public transport to minimise congestion and delays.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed passage without restriction, as per the advisory. It is pertinent to mention that Murmu will lay the foundation stone of a state-of-the-art public park being developed on 132 acres of land on Rajpur Road. The park, which is expected to be completed within a year, is envisioned as a landmark green space for the people of Dehradun. Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the advisory and contribute to the smooth conduct of the VVIP visit.
