Police gear up to ensure smooth Panchayat elections

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

In view of the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has directed officers to identify sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations in time and ensure preventive action against anti-social elements to maintain peace during the elections.

He held a meeting on Sunday with all gazetted officers, station house officers and outpost in-charges to review election preparations. He instructed them to manage nomination centres strictly, as the nomination process begins on June 25. Entry to nomination venues must be limited to the allowed number of people per candidate and procession timings must be fixed in advance to prevent conflict.

The SSP instructed officials to prepare a detailed traffic plan for the movement of polling parties and during counting to avoid disruptions. Sector and zonal officers were told to inspect polling locations and complete all arrangements on time. He directed to collect licensed weapons from voters in election areas as per State Election Commission guidelines. He warned officers not to show any negligence in implementing this directive.

During a review of criminal cases, the SSP asked for reasons behind pending investigations and ordered speedy resolution. All police stations incharges were directed to regularly update information on national and State-level portals under the CCTNS system.

Ahead of the Kanwar Mela, Singh instructed the SP and CO of Rishikesh to finalise all security arrangements and identify vehicle parking areas with necessary facilities in advance.
