After communal tension in Patelnagar, police carried out a flag march in sensitive areas of the locality to maintain law and order. During the march, people were urged to maintain peace and were warned of strict action against those attempting to disturb communal harmony.
The incident began on Monday when a screenshot circulated on social media showed an objectionable comment made by a person about the prophet of the Muslim community. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the Patelnagar outpost in-charge Pramod Shah took immediate cognisance and registered a case under sections 196(1), 299, 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The person Gulshan Singh (19) who made the comment was detained for questioning and the comment was removed from the platform.
Singh said that in response, members of a community gathered in Patelnagar, blocked the main road and attempted to incite people with religious remarks. To control the situation, police dispersed the crowd and restored order. Following a complaint from sub-inspector Harsh Arora, in-charge of ISBT outpost, another case was registered at Patelnagar police station under sections 121(2), 126(2), 190, 191(2), 196, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The SSP said that measures were taken to ensure peace in the area and warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to provoke communal unrest.
