Dehradun Police arrested one accused in connection with two separate cases of vehicle thefts reported from Patelnagar area. The accused has been identified as Kanhaiya (25), a resident of Patelnagar. The police also recovered the stolen vehicles from the accused.
According to the police, two scooters were stolen on different dates from the Patelnagar area. In the first case, a woman reported the theft of her scooter on December 30. In the second case, another complainant reported the theft of his scooter on January 9. After registering the cases, a police team was formed to trace the accused. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested 25-year-old Kanhaiya from the Niranjanpur area on Saturday. During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed that as he is addicted to drugs he would commit vehicle thefts to meet his addiction expenses.
The police further said that the accused had been planning to sell the stolen vehicles outside the State, adding that further legal action was being taken in the matter.
