Dehradun police on Monday arrested two key members of the interstate cheating racket that facilitated mass cheating during the CBSE-conducted at Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti/Lab Attendant recruitment exam on Sunday. The accused had promised candidates success in exchange for Rs seven lakh each, with Rs one lakh collected in advance from every candidate. The police conducted raids at two examination centres, Social Baluni Public School in Patel Nagar and Doon International School in Dalanwala during both exam shifts on Sunday. At the Patelnagar centre, police apprehended eight candidates who had reportedly concealed electronic devices, including in their shoes. At the Dalanwala centre, nine more were caught with similar devices. All arrested candidates hail from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana except two that belong to Andhra Pradesh. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the preliminary interrogation revealed that the Bluetooth devices were used to receive answers from remote handlers during the examination. Upon questioning, the accused revealed that the devices were supplied by two individuals Vivek Singh from Jind, Haryana and Shrikant from Rohtak, Haryana, who were operating the cheating network. Singh said that the police teams tracked down and arrested both accused from the Dalanwala area on Monday. The police recovered five mobile phones used in the operation and a white Swift car (HR-31-S-8759) from their possession. The SSP said that all 20 arrested individuals, including the 17 candidates caught on Sunday, have been sent to judicial custody at Suddhowala district jail following court orders. The police are now coordinating with other state police forces to uncover the full extent of this organised cheating racket, he added.
