Police acted on a tip-off about suspects attempting to escape to Nepal
The Udham Singh Nagar polices arrested two persons accused of murdering a driver and stealing a car after an encounter on Wednesday night. The police recovered country-made firearms from the two accused.
The superintendent of police (crime) Kamlesh Upadhyay informed that the police had received a tip-off about murder and theft accused persons attempting to sneak away into Nepal. Based on this information, a police team began checking vehicles at Puranpur turn in Jhankaiya area on Wednesday night. The polices team spotted two persons coming towards them in an Innova car. On seeing the polices, the duo reportedly started firing on them. The police team managed to arrest the two after the encounter.
Upadhyay informed that Pantnagar resident Rajneesh’s Innova car had been hired on November 2. A few days later when the car owner was unable to contact the driver Fahim, he contacted the polices. Later the body of an unidentified youth was discovered at Unnao in Uttar Pradesh on November 11. The Udham Singh Nagar police went to Unnao along with Fahim’s family members who identified his body. The two men accused of murdering him and stealing the vehicle have been identified as Ravindra from Gurdaspur district of Punjab and Jagjit Singh from Gularbhoj area of Udham Singh Nagar district. The police’s recovered two country-made firearms and live rounds from the two after they were arrested. According to the police, during questioning, they have admitted to the murder of the driver and theft of the vehicle.

Death sentence given to double murder convict
Court of Additional district judge (ADJ) Varun Kumar has served death sentence to the convict of the double murder which happened at Ranipur on September 24, 2016. Notably, the convict Sartaj, resident of Govindpur, Dadupur, under the police jurisdiction of Ranipur, had hacked his brother Shehzad and his wife Rukhsana to death after they quarrelled over Rs 50,000. The convict has also been booked for making a murder attempt on his niece.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the Government pleader Anil Kumar Rana said that the court has announced the death sentence to Sartaj on Thursday after taking statements of 16 witnesses. read more posts…
