Police arrested two shooters from Punjab who allegedly attempted to assassinate a hotel businessman in Haridwar on June 2, 2025. The attack, which took place near the Sukhhi Nadi bridge in the Kotwali Nagar area, was linked to an ongoing gang rivalry between the Nandu alias Kapil Sagwan gang and the Manjeet Mahal gang, the Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said.
He informed that the victim, 25-year-old Arun from Rohtak in Haryana, was shot at by unidentified bike-borne assailants and was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment. Following the incident, a case was registered under Section 109(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kotwali Nagar police station based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father.
The SSP said that Haridwar Police launched a high-level investigation and formed a joint team that conducted surveillance, activated its informer network and analysed more than 1,000 CCTV footage clips across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. After continuous efforts, the team arrested the two main accused Manav Hans and Gaurav Kumar from Phagwara in Punjab on June 11. Dobhal said that during questioning, the accused admitted they were members of the Nandu gang and had carried out the attack as part of an old rivalry with the Manjeet Mahal gang.
Police found that the conspiracy was planned by Nandu, who is currently based abroad. The shooters used a pistol, a motorcycle and an App to avoid tracking but were eventually located and arrested. He informed that three other accused, Himanshu Sood, Bobby and Shammi Khan are still absconding and police are continuing their search. The arrested individuals also have multiple criminal cases registered against them in Punjab. The director general of police Deepam Seth commended the Haridwar Police team for their swift action and instructed the SSP to ensure the strictest legal measures against all those involved.
