Police act against 280 people for encroachment in Dehradun

In view of the festive season, Dehradun police took action against 280 people for obstructing public movement through encroachments on Monday. The police conducted a campaign across urban and rural areas to clear main roads, footpaths and market areas of encroachments.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that during the drive, police issued challans under Section 81 of the Police Act against 280 individuals for placing goods outside shops or parking vehicles on main roads, collecting fines totaling Rs 70,000. Besides this, 85 individuals were challaned under Section 83 of the Police Act and referred to the court.

He said that reports against 158 people were also submitted to the magistrate concerned under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing public nuisance through illegal encroachment. Singh said that he has directed all police station officers to ensure smooth traffic flow and public movement during the festive season by taking strict action against those obstructing pathways and public spaces.

He stated that police teams will continue carrying out intensive monitoring and enforcement across Dehradun to maintain order in busy and crowded areas.
