Yadav inaugurates Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management at ICFRE

Minister dedicates National Forest Insect Collection digitised database & new technologies to nation

The Union minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management being established at the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) here on Saturday. The establishment of this center was earlier announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the high-level segment of the fourteenth Conference of Parties (COP 14) of United Nations to Combat Desertification. The main role of this centre would be to share knowledge and technology among developing country parties of UNCCD. The centre will facilitate networking of national and international institutions working on sustainable land and ecosystem management. It will also provide technical support for land degradation mapping, planning, monitoring and evaluation systems for interventions to combat land degradation. The centre envisages south-south cooperation to enable India to share its experiences with other country parties. Yadav also presided over the 29th annual general meeting at ICFRE.

As per the agenda, the annual report of ICFRE for the year 2021-22 was presented along with the annual audited account of the year in the AGM. The annual report for the year 2021-22 is a brief account of research, education and extension activities performed in various sectors of forestry, environment and climate change during the year. On the occasion, Yadav also dedicated the digitised database of National Forest Insect Collection (NFIC) to the nation. He also released some important publications and technologies of ICFRE like technology for manufacturing plywood panels using waste plastic as a binding agent and a report on soil health cards under different forest vegetations.

The ICFRE director general Arun Singh Rawat,  Forest DG and special secretary CP Goyal, senior officers from MoEFCC and other members of the ICFRE Society representing various state governments, educational institutions, scientific organisations  and officers and scientists from ICFRE were also present on the occasion.
