In a major step towards improving facilities for the pilgrims at the Kedarnath Dham located at an altitude of more than 3,500 metres above mean sea level, free WiFi service will be available for the pilgrims. The district administration successfully held a trial of the facility on Saturday and then dedicated it for the pilgrims.

On the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the district magistrate of Rudraprayag Saurabh Gaharwar took the initiative of providing free WiFi facility and setting up a unique mobile network owned by the district administration. Considering the fact that Rudraprayag district is highly sensitive for disaster, the network has been named district disaster resource network.

One of the key features of the network is that it will remain operational during any disaster or any extreme condition. The network also provides facilities of mobile data, voice calling and high quality visuals.

The chief development officer of Rudraprayag, GS Khati said that to get the benefit of the WiFi, one should register his/her mobile number on the settings of the WiFi following which an OTP will be sent to the mobile number using which the facility of high speed free WiFi will be available for half an hour.

He said that Rudraprayag is the first district of the country having its own mobile network. This network proved its value during the disaster of July 2024 when it was used by the rescue teams to save lives of pilgrims and labourers.
