Tuesday, 29 May 2018 | PNS | Dehradun — The long dry spell coupled with sweltering heat the State has been reeling under might end for a time as the Meteorological department forecast hailstorm and rain across a large swathe of Uttarakhand during the next 48 hours starting from Monday evening. As per the forecast, hailstorm and rain might lash isolated places of both the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of the State during the time. Dehradun which continued to grapple with the heat spell even on Monday might experience thundershower while the sky would remain mostly cloudy on Tuesday. The mercury here kept hovering around 39 degree Celsius on Monday with no rain-bearing cloud being sighted till late evening. The districts where rain has been forecast during the next 48 hours are Uttarkashi, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshawar, Almora, Nainital, Champawat and Pithoragarh. A Meteorological officer said that some places in Dehradun might also experience thunder cloud development and consequent rain on Tuesday. If it rains the mercury might dip by a few notches to settle around the normal, the weather officer said, adding that in case it does not rain the maximum temperature might hover in the neighbourhood of 39 degree Celsius and the minimum might be around 23 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded in Dehradun on Monday was 38.7 degree Celsius, three notches above the normal.
