HC seeks NHAI reply on delay in construction of bypass

The bypass in Gadarpur was to be constructed by January 2021 but is not yet completed

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to submit its reply in the court within 10 days in the case of delay in construction of an eight kilometre long bypass at Gadarpur in Udham Singh Nagar district. The single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari has asked as to when the construction of the bypass will be completed.

According to the case details, Gadarpur resident Manish Futela had filed a contempt petition in the High Court stating that during 2020 the NHAI had submitted an affidavit in the court stating that construction of the said bypass would be completed by January 2021. However, the construction of the bypass has not been completed till date, said the petitioner. During the hearing, the counsel representing the NHAI informed the court that the dispute with the contractor had been resolved. Further, a sum of Rs 88 crore had been approved for the construction of the said bypass, it was said.
