Pant calls on 15th Finance Commission chairman , Uttarakhand

Pitches for special category status for Uttarakhand

Sunday, 30 September 2018 | PNS | Dehradun— The state finance minister Prakash Pant met the chairman 15th Finance Commission N K Singh in New Delhi on Saturday and demanded Uttarakhand be made a special category state in view of its unique condition. In the meeting, Pant highlighted the economic condition of the state. It is worth mentioning here that the 15th Finance Commission would tour Uttarakhand from October 15 to 18. Pant is believed to have told Singh that Uttarakhand faced multiple losses due to the recommendations of 14thFinance Commission and as a consequence, the progress of state has slowed down. He said that the state is facing loss in revenue collections after the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) and as per the estimates, the loss is about 35 percent as compared with the revenue earning of pre- GST regime. The minister also highlighted the problems like mountainous terrain, natural disaster and poor economic infrastructure of Uttarakhand. He said that the state is paying price for the closure of many power projects due to environmental issues.
