The Dehradun district administration has ordered the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) to ensure the compliance of covid norms in Niranjanpur Mandi to minimise the contagion risk after the recent hike in Covid-19 cases. Hundreds of people visit the Mandi premises on a daily basis including suppliers from other cities to local vendors and customers which makes it more vulnerable for Covid spread. However, most of the people on the premises do not follow Covid guidelines, especially during the peak hours in the morning when suppliers and vendors arrive in the Mandi. The sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Manish Kumar conducted a surprise inspection of Niranjanpur Mandi on Saturday along with the police.

The officials imposed penalties on 17 people for not following Covid guidelines. On the direction of the authorities, the APMC secretary Vijay Thapliyal has also formed teams to ensure compliance with Covid rules. He said that nobody will be allowed to enter the premises without masks. Besides this, the SDM and the assistant superintendent of police, Himanshu Verma also held a surprise inspection in Paltan Bazaar and penalised 20 people for Covid violations. The DM R Rajesh Kumar said the administration will continue to conduct surprise inspections across the city, especially at the malls, marketplaces and Mandis to restrict Covid contagion. Authorities have been directed to take strict actions for any violation of Covid protocols under the relevant acts, stated Kumar.
