Starts production of a state of the art telescope for the general public.
In what can be termed as good news for the trekkers, wild life enthusiasts and the bird watchers, a state of the craft telescope which hitherto was only available to armed forces, would be accessible for the general public. Informing the media persons the general manager of Ordnance Factory Dehradun (OFD), P K Dixit said on Tuesday that the factory has started production of the telescope after successful trials. He said that under the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme, the ordnance factory has started production of many products. Under the scheme, a day light telescope for assault rifles was inaugurated on Tuesday. Informing about the telescope which would be available for the general public, Dixit said that it would cost in the range of Rs 20 – 25 lakhs. This telescope earlier was being made exclusively for the armed forces but now under the Atmanirbhar Bharat it is being produced for open market sale. The MD claimed that the telescope mounted on T-90 tanks which earlier were being imported for about Rs 40 lakh a piece are now being produced here at only Rs three lakh per telescope. Elaborating further he said that the telescope is indigenous and weighs 4.6 kg. Dixit added that the OFD has also started producing Zoom telescopes which are used with the 7.62 MM machine guns. Considering the requirement of the Army, the ordnance factory has also devised a special telescope with mobile camera voice recorder device.
