The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a wanted criminal of the Valmiki gang. The accused has been identified as Akash Saxena, a resident of Roorkee, and had a reward of Rs 5,000 on his arrest. He was caught from the Roorkee area on Saturday.
According to STF senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh Bhullar, last month, the STF registered a case against gang leader Praveen Valmiki and his associates after receiving confidential information. The gang has been involved in creating fake documents and grabbing land worth crores of rupees.
Bhullar said that the property fraud began after the death of Shyam Bihari, a resident of Sunehra village in Roorkee. His younger brother Krishna Gopal looked after the property, but he was shot dead in 2018 allegedly by the gang. Later, in 2019, the gang also attacked one Rekha’s brother Subhash when she refused to transfer the property to them. The family became so scared that they left the area and did not file any complaint.
